That's entirely the wrong attitude - the whole "well if you don't lock it up it's your own fault if it gets nicked".

No, it's not my fault, I'm not the criminal. I worked for my stuff, why has it become socially acceptable for other people to think they have the right to just take anything they fancy?

A load of good old fashioned country lynchings would soon see it right. Once heads mounted on pikes started appearing on people's fences the issue of theft would soon reduce drastically - the current handwringing namby pamby approach patently doesn't work.
