Must be old if it doesn't have a bayonet fitting (i.e. push up and twist...)
I'm always amused by Gas Safe who are holier than thou about gas and how if you look at it the wrong way - boom you'll kill everything within 100 miles, YET they often have no electrical knowledge, nor capability to do it properly or safely yet quite happily "have a go" or tell joe public (with even less knowledge or confidence) that its fine to do it themselves.....the amount of times I've seen CPCs in flexes used as line conductors by Gas Safe guys is....ridiculous....(and thats just the mild end of things...)
So (honest question) in what way is it dangerous is the gas supply is currently capped off (usually whats required for unoccupied homes) there is no gas going through the pipework and the open end is known, I'd also argue that there is a duty of care on the part of the competent person aka Gas Safe to check that there are no open fittings / lines BEFORE reconnecting / recommissioning the gas supply akin to an electrician being REQUIRED to check that the circuit and installation is SAFE and fit for service BEFORE re-energising the supply - saying "it should be fine" doesn't cut the mustard, its generally referred to as gross negligence / incompetence and failure to exercise proper duty of care, which as an independently certified and certified competent person you wouldn't have a leg to stand on should you recommission the gas supply without doing proper checks beforehand albeit IANAL

couldn't be simplerYou need a 1/2" bsp plug and a dab of jointing paste. Unscrew the brass cooker flex connector from the m&f elbow and screw in the plug. Brass or iron will be fine test with weak soapy water solution and then rinse off if you want to be fussytrust me I only did it for 42 years.

Fair enough point,
BUT IF the system works then the only person who should be turning the gas supply back on should be gas safe and if they turn it on without doing the tests then they aren't competent.....
Otherwise its an implicit admission that people without certs are regularly doing gas work / a sizeable minority of gas fitters are doing the "bang test" instead of proper testing
did u do it yourself or pay an exorbitant rate and get someone to do it for u![]()
