Hi, I'm a newcomer to this forum, and apart from some small experience nearly 40 years ago, to welding also. I have some metalworking gear (lathes, mills, etc) mainly for 'hobby' use, but sometimes I get asked to make one-offs on a semi-commercial basis. I've got a job on now which would be made easier if I could weld 12mm round mild steel bar 'edge on' to 4mm thick plate - sort of like the business end of a big key. I wouldn't buy a welder just for this job, but it's an example of the sort of stuff I might want to do. So my questions are (a) Is MIG the way to go for this and (b) if so, what sort of amperage would I be looking at to do this? Sorry if this is a naive question, but got to start somewhere!
Regards, Rob.
