Likely very few. I now only tow a car trailer on a regular basis and with tyre pressures of 90psi, religiously checking is not optional! How many of us shed draggers religiously check all tyres including the tow car before starting a journey each day like I do ?
muppetry If that isn't in the Oxford dictionary it should be. It's like a Swiss army knife word, useful in so many circumstances.I had a blow out on a caravan tyre once. No idea how old the tyre was but the only reason I knew it had gone was that I could hear something making a stranger than normal noise behind me. I was doing a fair speed too as I was about to head up a lengthy, quite steep hill did like to get a good head of speed up on the approach! (I'm still talking legal speeds but made a point of getting there quickly).
I pulled into an entrance way at the top of the hill, swapped it with the spare and carried on my way.
And yet, as @Bobupndown mentions, you do often hear of more serious incidents. I wonder how many are genuinely down to a burst tyre though and not just muppetry!
I have not noticed a year stamped on a tyre or is it a special code, I must go and look. It would be useful to know. The tyres on my Vauxhall had only done about 10,000 miles but they were about 7 years old so I had a new set fitted to be safe.
