Wobbly Barrow Reinforcement

Not seriously considering making one, I was just curious to see how two wheels went either side of a truncated cylinder.

The rest of it makes itself. I already have one decent wheelbarrow and one decent two wheel barrow.

Put the 4 inch wide wheel's out board .. similar to my old two wheeler with a galv tub . it could hold 1 & 1'2 times what brickies barrow did and after I'd modified it to have 4 precision sealed wheel bearings on a 12 mm thread bar tensioning to keep the wheels up against the axle tube .....it was a sight easer than 1/3 of a brickies barrow to push & pull .View attachment 310121

You'd soon come to grief trying to run up a scaffold plank into a skip though, that was my favourite or concrete out of the back of my Transit pickup straight in through the front door when we were laying the new floor in the kitchen.

Use two scaffold planks and make a double wheel path just like wot I did many times over . Last time I saw a decent floor jobby they piped & pumped it in through the lounge window , down the hall way & into the kitchen .

That muck barrow picture I put up is the same model as the one I used to do the modernisations & paths to this place we now live in . I had to make a bespoke ramp set & tape pond rubber lining rubbing strips on the door frames to get the barrow in & out the bungalow as there was only 1/2 an inch clearance through the front door .

One for each wheel, where did your feet go or are you very wide in the stance department ? You'd need another plank in the middle and a lot of concentration I think

Decent skips have a much lower loading end so loading off two planks is a lot easier . Having the two wheels means you have your feet shoulder width apart without problem . and it does not cause you to wibble wobble on the way up the ramps as the load is spread across two wheels rather than it all being on a central one.

If he'd made the diagonal cut leaving a 2 inch lip at the front end and almost all of the back end base dropping hte rear end on the barrow frame he have had a far better barrow . cutting the gas cyl & putting either plates or spreaders in the cut ends so each half could rotate freely of the other half cylinder would have made it super barrow .

Just had a thought would some four inch wide of the ribbed 18 inch black poly pipe or heavy duty blue plastic water or yellow gas main be good for making two front wheels each one being bolted or coach screwed via predrilled holes on inch thick tongue & grooved wood dishes .. two dishes per wheel .

Please don't encourage the guy ,it's bad enough already.

Not forgetting the doubling of effort when negotiating rough ground.

That's why I modified my barrow to have four precision sealed bearings in the wheel hubs , but it didn't double the effort in any way shape or form .

Usually I arranged things so that I never had to negotiate any rough ground preferring to use more scaff planks and construction ply to lay a useable path way .


I rarely ever tried to push a full tub up into the skips due to me have multiple spinal problems , a knackered left shoulder joint & in need of a replacement left knee .

Things obviously take/ took longer but when your well & truly disabled , if you want to do physical things you have to think and work differently all the time.

The two I have, are the Walsall Premier Plus Metal Wheelbarrow 120 litre, they are now priced at £64 in B&Q , galvanised steel, so they should last, I've had them over 10 years now, though they do not get worked all day every day, they've had a leisurely life, but are both on their third set of tyres/wheels/tubes, that must be due to the overloaded, high speed, skip filling
