I have an old Airco CV-200 wire welder. The wire feeder is long gone so I have tried to use the power unit as a standard stick welder (Arc). The data plate indicates the output is DC however when welding the stick rod splatters badly (6011 and 7018 rod). The unit has a diode bridge rectifier; curious if one or more of these were bad would cause the problems. The 6011 rod is AC/DC which confuses me as to why it is so hard to run. The power when welding seems to vary giving the effect of welding on a magnetized pipe; which I am not.One of those deals where you just can’t say what is wrong other than it just doesn’t yield a smooth weld
Any ideas would be appreciated.
