I have a mig/flux core mig welder. I was wondering if I could say take the tip off, take out the wire, and use it as a stud welder for body repair? Put the stud in the end of the gun? Isn't that really what a stud welder is, a flux core welder of sorts?
I don't know for sure but I'd say that it'll need more power than a basic mig can give you. It might work if you have one of the higher powered models.
What are you planning to put against the 'back' of the weld though?
if im not wrong a spot welder passes the current through the metal from one prong to the other therefore impossible to be recreated by using a home made mig make up. i could be wrong i usually am!!!
No a stud welder. You know instead of drilling holes and putting studs in and pulling them with a slide hammer to remove dents. You use a stud welder and it welds teh studs to the dent then you attach your slide hammer to the stud.
A stud welder is a totally different beast from a bog standard MIG plant, different collets for different size studs eg: M5 M6 M8 ect. Plus the fact, mig tip is the part that pick up the power, remove this and power is lost.
