The problem now is I rarely see a Snap on man, none come to work, one who has the area near home will change stuff but its very slow often weeks to exchange stuff, I believe many now charge for ratchet repairs unless you are a big customer.I've never paid for a repair kit for a snap on ratchet, they have always been free.
In fact just had a 3/8 drive kit fitted to a 25 year old long handle flexhead unit very heavily used and a kit to a 20 year old 1/2" standard quick release unit the only thing wrong was the small external lever for direction change had been broken.
Many years ago Snap-on was one off the best manufacturers with the best back up service, now there other manufacturers that have upped their game/quality and caught up.
I have to agree on your other point, most stuff is now much better quality, I sold Bergen for a few years and can't think of any coming back broken, I used to guarantee it my self as Bergen don't offer one, but its that good I never had any issues.
If fact most of the imported quality stuff was excellent, only thing I used to get back were some Torx drivers but I used to just change them for free as the majority of my customers were regulars so would buy again as long as I sold quality.
Ingeneralmany off the brands now just import form Taiwan, Japan and China and in general these suppliers have upped the game and make some quality stuff, just look at your budget and buy accordingly, whilst I like most of the Snap on stuff I no longer feel its worth the money.
Shopping around is the key.
Snap on Screwdrivers this is the Snap on Hard Handle range manufactured by Williams tools now owned by Snap on.
