Hello all,
I've been reading through the excellent guides and forum posts. This has helped me to figure out what I would like, but now I need to narrow this down to some specific models.
I am new to welding, but would eventually like to be able to weld my classic cars. Meanwhile, I have a project in mind, for a vice bench. It will be constructed out of 40mm mild steel box section (3mm thick), with some 3mm mild steel plate as shelves. So, the plan is to be welding mild steel, 1mm-3mm thick to start with. Here is my criteria:
• I have regular single phase power at the moment, so the welder must run off a 13A plug
• I will only use this in my garage, so I don't need it to be mobile, but space is limited, so the smaller the better
• I would like as many amps as possible, so that I can have the option to weld thicker metals in future
• For working on body panels, I'd like a welder that can go down to 20A or lower
• I'd like a welder that comes with, or accepts a Eurotorch
• I'm planning to use 75% Argon / 25% CO²
• Budget up to £1000 (for the welder alone)
I think what would be helpful for me, is to find out what the best welders are at say £500, £750 and £1000. Then I can compare the specs and see if it's worth me spending the extra money, or if a £500 one will be good enough.
Thanks a lot for any advice!
