So I'm not quite a beginner having spent about two years working as mig welder in a factory after learning on stick, but it was so long ago, I may as well be starting again!
I'm looking for a tidy arc inverter for welding mild steel in various shapes, flat, angle, box section etc, up to about 5 or 6mm in thickness I reckon. I want it portable for occasionally bringing it up the road to work on machinery but mostly it will be in the workshop. I have a 16amp supply also but I think I can just swap the plug it to a 13amp plug if I want to bring it somewhere at the cost of a few amps, is this correct?
I also like the idea of a lift tig function so I can mess around with thinner mild steel, making stoves out of gas bottles etc. I will buy a dedicated mig machine later on if I get back into it but for now, I think an arc inverter with lift tig will be the best option.
With that in mind, I'm looking at three packages from an Irish supplier. No particular reason I'm choosing this supplier bar the price seems right for a package including the welding, shield, gloves and a few sticks to get started! And they're not too far uup the road if something goes wrong!
Parweld XTS 162. €243.00
After reading a few threads on here this one pops up a bit. It looks good on paper and has a 3 year warranty.
XTS 200 MMA Inverter. €239.00
This is the shops own version of the above except with an extra 40amps. Again with a 3 year warranty.
SWP DIGI-ARC 160. €269.00
Never head of these buut again it looks good on paper and has a good 2 year warranty.
They're all showing to have just under 50% discount. I don't know if that's true or not but it seems to be good value. Can anyone advise or recommend something else?
