Hey everyone, I bet you get this all the time;
I really want to get into welding to be able to fabricate some stuff, I'm currently creating a Cafe Racer styled motorcycle and I would like to be able to get a MIG for a couple of things. (Gas / No Gas - For use indoors and outside)
Firstly I want to make a motorcycle lift, I can buy the blueprints build one but I need to be able to weld 6mm steel for that project (Will make sure I can get a good test weld before I make it)
I also want to be able to make some exhaust cans, from rolled stainless steel or Aluminium sheet metal, which I think will be about 2mm thick.
I also want to fabricate a battery box, some brackets for headlights and indicators and to weld a U bend onto the end of the sub frame (Non-structural part of chassis) which I think is about 3mm tubular steel.
I want to be able to do work outside and inside the workshop I'm currently building, so I've been looking at the bigger Clarke gas / no gas MIG's.
I'm thinking of starting of using flux coated wire so I don't mind buying the shielding gas bottles later on.
For now I have a Maximum budget of £350 for a welder and all the kit (Except gas)
I'm happy to buy a 2nd hand welder in good condition.
I've been looking at:
Clarke MIG 196
Clarke MIG 160EN Turbo
Clarke MIG 151EN Turbo - MachineMart says it accepts Ali and stainless steel, does that mean the others don't?
Is there any I can't use with my home socket?
Will some of the minimum amp's these MIG's use be too much for 1mm steel?
