Am I the only person who dislikes muchly the 'ergo' style torches??? I'm far happier with the round tube handled style.
HughF,
I'm the same mate I despise ergo handles,
I hardly ever have a chance to hold a touch in the "conventional" position. I grip the gas lense for most bike stuff, and have to do whatever I can for the sensors I weld, think of any torch angle and grip combo and I have used it. Only time I have the luxury of going conventional is if I'm on Ally flat sheet but welds.
Not sure who commented on the Binzel over braid hose?!
But my Binzel WP18SC that was supplied with my Loch V30 AC/DC, god knows? maybe 5 years ago now, no faults, no leaks, no perishing same torch. It's the opposite of Triggers broom! It has a none zip heavy rubber sheath up the last 800mm which is a black leather cover. My WP20 has a Python tan leather zip up, 2 years old and not a problem. Incidentally I coil up my torches when I finish work and don't walk all over them and I keep a clean oil free floor, not sure if that makes any difference but it can't hurt it.
Binzel over braid is stupidly flexible. Most torches can be run a little over rated amps once in a while but if you stick to the 100%duty cycle rating max amps you will get a much longer life. I'd say that people over spending on uprating the quality or duty cycle of there tig torch is actually a wise over spend. WP20 should take 250 amps all day, so when I run mine pulsed at 150 peak i know it'll stack cool to the touch on the ceramic and never burn out ever, unless my cooler fails, but then I do have a loch so it's a slim chance.
I often recommend uprated torches to new welders.
