Ok guys and gals.
I may be in the market for a new mig set. The old NBC and the GKN Lincoln just don't produce the quality of weld I want. They're good, but I've been looking at pics of "other people's" welds on here (the two Pauls), and I want to be able to do welds of the right profile with good toe wetting and proper fusion. I'm fed up with trying different gases, different wires, the gamut of voltage and wire and inductance combos. The welds are good, but not great, and enough years of experience tell me my machines aren't going to improve this (they're both probably 30+ years old).
To which end, I would like honest opinions please, of mig welding sets which can do the above, reliably.
If you haven't worked it out, what I really want are reviews of Lorch sets - or similar - and opinions of how much difference there is in quality between 240v sets and 415v, but specifically the difference between single and three phase (I imagine the dual voltage sets are single/two phase).
Price is not necessarily an issue - not because I'm rich, but because it's an investment. Not looking at anything over 300A - even less will do.
