At the weekend I was using my trusty Montgomery Ward roto-tiller when a long standing crack in the handle finally gave way.
Since I did not have any shielding gas for my mig I decided to use the massive oxy acetylene set donated to me by a friend.
I haven't done OA welding since Hackney College for my B.Eng but I thought it was worth a go.
I didn't have any filler rods so I used some coat hanger wire <eek> (it was only later someone said I should have used some wire from the 5Kg roll in the Mig!).
Anyhow the weld seemed to go ok and I did both sides but it did look rather black and after an hour or so of using the tiller it cracked again. What might the cause be? Wrong gas mix or using the coathanger or just bad technique.
My weld runs either side of the visible crack the other larger weld was already there (and obviously better then mine :-) ).
