You are such a great bunch on here - I bet someone has knowledge about this!
I was with my mum in Manchester over the weekend. She is now in sheltered housing (has dementia and her mobility is OK, but not brilliant) and has a one bedroom flat. She is on the first floor and her bathroom has a sink, toiler and shower. My problem (strictly her problem) is that the shower has a very high step in to it (I assume this would have been OK for the previous owner, but mum just cannot step up that far easily (and safely), so she has flannel washes only and has never got in the shower yet!
Looking at the plumbing in the room, the height (I assume again) is because the waste is above the (concrete) floor and the height is needed to get the pipework in and some degree of fall.
However, over the weekend, my son and I stayed in the guest room at the sheltered housing complex and the bathroom in the guest room is a wet room with a drain set in the floor (also concrete!) Same level as my mum!!
So, there are two questions!
1. How have they achieved it and could I do something similar to create a wet room for her - although I doubt they will be happy to have me (or an approved contractor) dig the hole in the floor to set the pipework in.
Or alternatively and possibly easier, are there any very low-profile shower bases to reduce the step significantly?
Cheers
Peter
