Hi Chaps,
Sorry if this is a silly question but I haven't found much conclusive on it.
I am welding 1mm mild steel with .9mm flux core, I have Zinc primer with 60% zinc that is advertised as 'weld through', I am using it to coat the metal I will eventually be welding to prevent corrosion from the back / inside.
Is it good practice to do this? Does anyone know the positives and negatives? Is it a good / bad idea?
A typical example would be, cutting out rust on thin steel of an inner arch, then welding a 1mm plate in its place. I'll still have the clean non-rusty second skin underneath, I don't want to leave that bare and the back of the welded plate bare as it will allow moisture and rust to form, hence the thought of zincing the inside faces prior to welding.
Many thanks!
