A18, ccms? You just lost me...
Ignorance admission... I don't know what the terms A18 and ccms mean.
I have been using filler rods for practicing. They are some "standard" mild steel rods that I bought years ago for oxy-acetylene welding. What would they be? I did not ask for anything special (at that time) for gas welding, just "mild steel filler rods". If I need special mild steel quality filler rods for TIG, then I might have a problem there. I have bought some stainless rods (316L) especially for TIG, but I have not used then yet, as I was practicing on mild steel before I butchered any stainless.
I do have an old stainless steel kitchen sink lying around. That is made from "deep drawing capacity" 304 stainless, IIRC. Should I try the 316L rods on a clean piece of that and see if the problem goes away? Alternatively, I do have some 316L bar stock and flat strip that I was planning on using for a few projects. I could use that if the 304 stainless sink is not going to help clarify things...
Any opinions on oxy-acetylene rods or stainless anything?
Cheers...
