right, i now have sat infront of me a brand new cat for the megane. the centre section is in good nick so will be using that.
i have been thinking about fully welding it, been told not to by some, go for it by others etc, however after thinking about it, the car came out of the factory with a one piece stainless exhaust, so it cant do any harm to have a once piece mild steel system now, especially as it is all rust free, fully galved and will be painted with high temp paint when im done anyway.
now, the cat has come with a sleeve to be used to clamp to the centre section.
would i be better off butt welding the cat and centre section, as the pipes are both same od and wall thickness, or would it be better putting the sleeve over the joint and welding the sleeve to each part of the exhaust? the cat on the car at the moment has a flared section that slides over the centre section, this cat just has a straight pipe, with the sleeve to act as a flared section
