Hello guys and girls, need some advice , welding 6mm box on a trailer repair, i will be using a 190 amp lincon electric welding machine , so wondering roufhly how many amps do you need to weld 6mm
Depends on the joint set up and the rod chosen. 3.2mm cells would eat it alive if your set runs them but 120 ish and a 7018 will do just fine if you work within its peramiters. A 5mm rod is darn near as thick as the parent metal!!!!!!!!!Hello guys and girls, need some advice , welding 6mm box on a trailer repair, i will be using a 190 amp lincon electric welding machine , so wondering roufhly how many amps do you need to weld 6mm
I use around 180 with a Lincoln rod, 5mm.
It's in the MIG section so I think the OP is not talking about stick machines.Depends on the joint set up and the rod chosen. 3.2mm cells would eat it alive if your set runs them but 120 ish and a 7018 will do just fine if you work within its peramiters. Fair enough just reading new posts and though Wtf 5mm rod for 6 mm box! And all the amps of a 200 setIt's in the MIG section so I think the OP is not talking about stick machines.
Don't square edge it. Prep it for full pen joints and your 190 available will be sufficient to do the job.Hello guys and girls, need some advice , welding 6mm box on a trailer repair, i will be using a 190 amp lincon electric welding machine , so wondering roufhly how many amps do you need to weld 6mm

That's pretty hefty box so
Go full pen.
Personally I'd stick weld it with low hy's for added peace of mind but if that isn't an option, prep it and go with the mag.
Sorry it was from an earlier post on the thread. With mig certainly in v down yeah wind it up. Must remember to read every postIf it's prepped to take 2 passes then the root doesn't need to be maxed out but I would be at the top end for the next one. If it's partially prepped for one pass then yes I'd max it out. What do you mean by big rod? It's a mig.
I was only suggesting low hys as my preferred option. They don't need to be particularly big. 3.2 would be nice but a 2.5 would do it no issues.
