Hello,
I've been reading up the forum every time I would need some information and found it very useful. Although this time I can not find the information.
I've been arc welding for my DIY projects for years and recently bought an inverter welder to replace my basic transformer AC welder. A very nice piece of kit and makes welding a breeze for occasional welder.
I want to weld a stainless steel water tank for my boat and wonder if anybody could recommend the stainless steel grade and MMA electrodes for welding. The water will be used for food so I want to take all the necessary precautions to avoid negative effects later.
I will be laser cutting 3mm stainless sheet to the size I need to fill the shape of the bow. Then I weld all the edges as tee joints for bottom and sides to make sure they are water tight. The top will be a bolt on for ease of maintenance.
1. What stainless grade sheet should I use?
2. Is 3mm sufficient? Water tank dimensions roughly are 2m x 1m x 0.5m. I can weld 2mm sheets, but prefer 3mm and above.
3. What stainless electrodes should I use?
4. Any recommendations on welding pattern? (eg direction, length of seam etc to reduce warpage)
Finally, I have a shot blaster, would that be a good way to get all the slag off the weld seams seams?
Any other recommendations?
Cheers
