Finally got sick of having to borrow a trailer to cart about my crap, and after looking at the prices trailers of this size and build where selling for, I though it was best to get one done from scratch.
This is my first major project, but when I say "my first" its the first one i've attempted to design and construct. My cousin is a fabricator by trade and (honestly) is doing all of the welding as I just don't have that much experience or capability when it comes to fusing metal, so its more of a project to learn from as well as try and get some more time throwing sparks!
Basic Plan/Must haves
Here's some pics and if there is any interest I can post up measurements etc for anyone looking to create something similar.
Floor Almost complete
Placing springs to check measurements of the hangers before welding
Ladder rack on, checking its all square before welding
Uprights and upper rails tacked and squared up
That is as far as its got at the moment.
Next is to get the sides welded fully, start the tail door and make up the plates that will be used to bolt the hubs to each axle. Just waiting for some 80x40 box and a length of 50x50 box to complete the frame before sending off for galvanizing.

Basic Plan/Must haves
- 4 wheel breaking (using Ford Fiesta mk6 drums)
- Galvanised
- Should be able to fit a 8x4 sheet of wood on the floor with enough room to lift it out
- Entirely smooth inside, no angle sticking out or anything to catch when sliding things along the floor or up the sides
- Ladder rack must be large enough to clear the roof of my car (Pajero)
- Self contained, no trailer boards
- Capable of carrying 2 ton
- Should require little maintaince
