Is that the one that costs £5 off eBay ? Any good? Why not get a cheap bench grinder and fit a diamond wheel? This is by far the best way to go for anyone on a limited budget.

you got an eBay link??Just need to make a simple adapter and you can use a £5 diamond wheel from Ebay.
Nowhere to put a grinder, and the space I do have is reserved for future machines such as a 6x48" belt sander and whatnot. Combining it with my lathe on the other hand... takes up no space, is probably even cheaper, I could just get the diamond wheel and fit it on the lathe.
Quickest way to mess up your lathe - learn to do it properly on the belt sander you already have, it really isn't difficult at all...
It is generally considered a really terrible idea to do grinding in the lathe (unless it is to the left of the headstock, well away from the ways)... Grinding dust + oil + soft cast iron bed = premature wear

I thought you meant a metal lathe. It is actually to the left of the headstock. The manufacturer designed it that way, intended it to be used for sharpening wood turning chisels.
Edit: Here's a picture of one, with a much bigger wheel than mine

Correction 2 for just over £5 :http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Pack-4-...516949?hash=item2803af6055:g:WVwAAOSwgQ9Vp6Y4
I read not to use the side of the wheel to grind them but to always hold them straight onto the wheel.
