First off HELLO. Newbie here.
I need a project to practice welding and make something I've wanted for ages.
A trailer.
I'll worry about the law, max towing weights, braking etc.
What I'd like is some info on how you design a trailer.
Whether to use one long rod for the tow or two in a v formation?
Why some have inverted ties like bridges?
how you work out steel strengths?
max load vs min weight?
one or two axles?
Not going down the alloy route.
My mechanical theory is old and basic. Just tension torsion stuff.
has anyone found a good resource to explain design.
Oh And I still prefer a slide rule! So no spread sheets.
Hope you can help. Not looking for anything too involved but want to have more than a "I just followed the instructions" role.
Cheers me dears.
