I have a MkII golf GTI which i stripping and rebuilding at the moment, i have found some scary holes in the rear wheel arch and sill/ floor pan which need welding up. I have been quoted near to £400 pounds to get these welded up which i consider to be a lot considering the holes are cosmetic not structural. I have read a few posts on here about choosing a welder but im unsure which is the most suitable welder (ARC or MIG). I have a tight budget and no experience so would VERY grateful for any help at all in choosing the best machine to do it myself. Would i be right in thinking an ARC welder is too vicious for the thin gauge bodywork steel on an older car? Many thanks in advance - sorry if this is boring to you guys!
