I've got 0.015" of deflection at the end of the arbor in the M1 I recently bought. I thought the arbor was bent, but after checking it between centres, it only had a midway deflection of 0.003" However when in the machine, it's much bigger.
Turns out to be the arbor nut; finger tight 0.002".Nipped up, sufficiently to stop the cutter slipping, it jumps to 15thou
I've cleaned all faces with scotchbrite, there are no marks anywhere to be seen, and the machine head clocks in at half a thou
Could it be the face of the nut isn't square to the thread, and as tension is applied to the arbor it deflects.
