Hi all
I'm pretty new to tig welding but i do have probably 50 hours in total welding with my setup so not a complete novice. most of this time was spent making a turbo manifold from thick walled SCH10 pipe which wasn't to hard to do, im assuming its abit more forgiving than the thin stuff. Anyway Im attempting to make a downpipe for my track car and was wondering what im doing wrong.
I have a dc tig welder which is not the most expensive thing in the world, blue 1.6mm tungsten with a gas lens and a small cup no.8 i think, gas flow set to 10cfh. I am welding 304 SS 1.5mm thick wall exhaust tube. I have cleaned the area with acetone etc and set my machine to 45 amps and to me it looks like im over cooking the welds and maybe im moving to quickly?
the fit-up was also pretty good, but i was adding filler as im a little nervous about welding it autogenous as im not sure if it would hold or if i even possess the skill to do that. What can i do to improve these welds? im after strength so not to bothered about colors or dimes etc.
