Just thought I'd share a simple little jig, in fact, it's so simple I hesitate to call it a "jig".
I'm just a hobbiest TIG welder, but it was annoying me that I was either wasting the last 3 inches of each filler rod or burning thru gloves and still wasting the last inch. So I dug a 6" x 2" (approx) piece of 1.6mm ali' out of the scrap pile, held it up to the bandsaw to create a groove, then widened the groove into a V with a file.
Ta-daa!!
Used thus-ly
Obviously you push the loose "end" up to the clamped rod, and apply a little pressure and then tack the 2 together.
I used 30amps for the 2.4mm rods and 15amps for the 1.6mm rods.
Here's a shot showing the back side of the tacked together rod
So I spent 10 mins converting the pile of little "ends" into a few usable rods.
