I have come across this in my browsing Tig Pen and I was wondering if anyone has tried one? At forty odd quid I would make one before I bought one, even if I had to hew it from the solid using lolly sticks!
The real issue with the majority of these "aids" is that they cannot accomplish the job someone designed them for. And then some innocent Newbie comes along and tries to work out what he is doing wrong, because the gadget is useless. Esab just went right down in my estimation peddling such crap.
I've tried one out for curiosity purposes and they make life more difficult.
It doesn't take long to master it with filler alone. Hold the filler loosely between fingers 2 and 3 or 3 and 4 (assuming thumb is no1)
Then from underneath press the tip of your thumb firmly on the rod and drive it through your fingers release the thumb pressure slightly, slide thumb back up the rod and repeat. Sit down in front of the tv and practice away. Soon becomes easier. If the Chinese can use chopsticks feeding a tig filler is kids play in comparison.
I can't use chopsticks lol.
I tried one because of a problem I have with movement of my thumb on my left hand , makes it a bit easier for me , at times , other times I just leave a long stick out of the filler and keep feeding depends on how much weld is needed , if you can master the method that Richard uses it is a far superior way
