Tig fingers are a very high temp resistant fire blanket material. You can prop an inch from the welded area on Alu with a proper tig finger and you'll not be cooking your pinkies.THanks, I had some extra bits left over and I cut them up and folded them in on each other, homemade TIG fingers:

That's what I use Dennis. Just take the legs from some old jeans and make tubes to size. You can join them to get whatever length you need and then just attach with a couple of cable ties.
