Our emergency care in the UK is 2nd to none - it's the aftercare the NHS falls down on.
Having said the the ambulance waiting times - especially in Wales - are way beyond a joke now.

They are but that is because they cannot transfer patients as the beds in Hospitals are full.

The beds are full because there are loads of people waiting to be discharged to either care homes or will need care at their home following discharge from Hospital

I have to say my personal experience of that is exactly the opposite. Admittedly it was quite specialist aftercare with a stem-cell transplant but 10 years monitoring with a full-work up each time I went in. Due to something they weren't happy with they extended that for a further three years to keep an eye on things.

A farmer near me had a bad accident the other day hedge cutting. could have been worse though in so many ways. He was cutting the hedge from inside the field above the road. Tractor slid down a the bank onto the main road - lucky nothing coming and lucky the tractor spun around on the road or it would have gone over a 200' drop!
Sadly he didn't come out of it unscathed - a branch went straight through a window on the cab and caught him in the face. Last I heard he may lose an eye.

Doesn't surprise me in the slightest. I used to be on a lot of farms years ago and the state of the tractors and equipment was shocking, and loads of the "Ah shure, it'll be grand" attitude from the farmers.

Headline says it all - "Wisbech Farmer". Literally nothing that can be written after those words should come as any surprise.

They also love to run around the back roads with those bale spikes at windscreen level. Extra bonus points for doing it while on the phone, especially if it is getting dark.

Farmers have been repeatedly shown what's the worst that can happen ever since the first agricultural machine was invented, yet they are still amazed!

Ditto, but around here it's rare, thankfully.
It's almost as if some / most of the young tractor drivers have been on a course, or something, and some of it has stuck.
One place I worked, it was a firing matter if you drove the forkie around with the tines up, and after seeing the safety videos, quite right too.

The problem is agriculture is still 40-50 years behind in terms of h and s.
I think alot of this is down to the isolation of it.
Go on big farms and it's all up and together. But the little farms where it's farther and son and none has ever left the farm and you find noone has ever seen better ways of doing things.
This isolation causes alot of problems and tbh the injury's don't seem to have nearly the toll that unfortunately depression and suicide have.
Unfortunately farming is in a very sad place in this country in many ways and government are further pushing it there.

It's not just driving around like that.
There was one bloke I worked with who parked the telehandler every time without fail outside the pedestrian door of one of the sheds with the bale spike at face height.
Fortunately the only person to caught out by it was him and he learned why he got shouted at constantly

About seven years ago, I stayed on her farm for a holiday, and in return, showed everyone on the farm how to drive the tractor, including a day going through safety, hitching and unhitching implements, loaders...etc.
Methinks a refresher might be due!

About seven years ago, I stayed on her farm for a holiday, and in return, showed everyone on the farm how to drive the tractor, including a day going through safety, hitching and unhitching implements, loaders...etc.
Methinks a refresher might be due!

Refresher training is a waste of time. Everyone sits there going yes yes yes does it properly and the following morning go back to doing exactly what they did before.
The best remedy for things like this, be it around farm or construction machinery, is a miserable old sod going on and on and on like a broken record until it is so ingrained in you that it causes nervous sweats if you don't do it.
I had an old boy like this when I started.
He said "you may not like me but you will learn from me "

those nurses do a hell of a job looking after you before, during and after any visits to hospital

so that after care is spot on

as goes for ambulances cant blame the crews who do a good job

Does she wear a baseball cap? I find when i wear mine I don’t see things that are just above my eye line, don’t know how many times I’ve twated my head because of it

Sadly I wasn't able to be there being miserable and grumpy every day, although it's a role I would have excelled at, but I did manage to teach them a lot during my stay. As far as I know that's the first accident of any kind in seven years and it won't be repeated. Not bad since no-one had ever had any proper training!

No she doesn't. It was a moments carelessness. They all know to drop the loader. Now they remember why...

There used to be a safety video shown to engineering apprentices here about the various dangers of machinery, grinding wheels, burns while welding etc. It was extremely graphic and anyone who seen it never forgot it. Maybe its the way to do it ?

Makes it alot more serious , Shows this is what actually happened to someone and a real person who could be you if you don't follow these procedures etc.

Rather than just wear these or else
