Don't they call it keyhole welding or something similar. I've seen to done when overplating on ships hills for strength.In some cases I can't do the edges hence this method.
Don't know why more people don't use it. Only ever seen it done on thin sheet steel.
I once did a break test - not very scientific just used a dirty great big sledge hammer - I gave up long before the welds did
The key is making sure the hole is big enough to allow you to penetrate the bottom layer properly rather than just the sides of the top layer.Well that's a relief judging by the last 2 remarks. I will happily keep on plugging
what does a heat mark on lead look like, does it colour?i do it a lot on lead when customers wan decorative items on the finished face but dont want heat marks from welding
