I have been making picture frames and small pieces of furniture from steel angle.
At first I used to roughly polish them but as time has gone on I have trying to put a high polish on them.
My tools to achieve it have been growing by the day.
I have at the moment an 2 x 72 belt grinder with 2hp motor and VFD. plus an assorted set of belts from 36 grit to 800 grit.
I also have a 1300 watt 5 inch angle grinder with 80 grit and 120 grit flap discs.
Plus a 550 watt bench grinder/polisher with 8 inch polishing mops, 3 different grades with compounds to match. From a Sissel mop, a coloured mop to a loose leaf finishing "G" mop.
I've just ordered a set of Scotchbrite 8 inch medium/fine/very fine mops which equate to 150 grit/240 grit/ 360 grit, which will fit on the bench grinder/polisher too.
At the moment since the steel is heavy milled I normally give it and the welds a blast over on the 2 x 72 bench grinder, which gets everything down to bare metal in a few seconds ( fantastic belt grinder for ultra quick removal without any heat)
But leaves it with 36 vertical grit marks.
Then I find it quicker to blast over with the flap disc in the angle grinder first 80 grit and then 120 grit. You can see the disc marks on the pieces.
Then this is where the Scotchbrite pads are to come in first 150/240/360 and then
finish with the 3 different polishing mops and compounds and hopefully that will be good?
At the moment since im waiting for the Scotchbrite pads for the bench grinder/polisher to arrive I'm getting highly polished but still with 120 grit flap disc marks.
How does that all sound?
