I was having a look around the internet for advice on welding Stainless Steel when I stumbled across this site. Lots of useful info - thanks!
Interestingly I had a go at welding aluminium a few weeks ago and gave up in disgust. Having sat and read the advice on this site (editorial + forum messages) I've now learnt how to do it! Immediate success! Wonderful! Thank-you! I have found I have to set my MIG to absolute minimum power and fast wire feed. Thanks for all the advice.
I was taught to weld mild steel a couple of years ago by a friend who is a full time pro: so my technique is quite good, but I just don't do enough.
I was interested to read various bits about MIG welder power rating v. Mild Steel sheet/plate thickness. I use a Clarke 100E Mk2 but have good results welding 6mm steel plate? How come?
As far as extending the site is concerned, perhaps having a directory of:
1/ Steel Suppliers
2/ Welding equipment and consumables suppliers
3/ Gas
.. would be a benefit? Or perhaps a forum section dedicated to these topics?
Thanks for the great site.
Mike
