I'm trying to get into the habit of doing one of those hundreds of little jobs in the workshop when I have a brew and get an excuse to slide off from domestic chores, DIY or paid work for 10 minutes.
Today it was this. I acquired a nice vice a year or so ago, it needs a bit of TLC but I still use it occasionally until I get around to doing it up properly. However it has no handle so I knocked this up, took 15 mins.
First I needed something with a square hole, preferably about 11.5mm sq. I have a box of old duplicate or damaged sockets. A half inch socket fitted like a wizards sleeve so I took a 3/8" socket and used a burr and a file to take it out a bit, that was 10 minutes. A strip of steel out of the scrap box and a handle I bought off ebay many moons ago that turned out to be the wrong size for the original job.
Welded the socket on, drilled the strip and put a crank in it.
Fitted the handle with an M8 nyloc, job done.
Any more tea break tools?
Cheers
Andy
