I have, very carefully, held an empty 5kg spool in the lathe and refilled it with wire from a 15kg reel on a length of pipe supported on a couple of axle stands, very slowly, using a stick to guide the wire . . . the effect of lathe driven wire wrapped around fingers . . . cheese, wire, springs to mind.On the subject of mig wire I picked up a load of spools at a sale recently not realising it was for machine welding and the spools don't fit my welder. Just wondering short of spooling it onto a different reel has anyone got a solution to fix this
I've also drilled a big hole in the back of a welder, in-line with the rollers, shoved a length of nylon pipe through it as a guide, and balanced the same roll on the same pipe on the same stands behind it to feed the wire directly into the welder for a small stainless job.
