I know they're not normally at the top of our collective list for customer friendliness, product knowledge or price, but I have to say that Halfords came through for me on Saturday.
MIG wire ran out on Saturday afternoon and, by definition, it's always when you're in a hurry, don't have a spare and none of the "good" welding supplies stores are open.
Screwfix: Impax 5KG 0.8, £27.99 available for collection next day
Toolstation: SIP 5KG 0.8, £36.14, available for collection next day
Halfords: SIP 5KG 0.8, £17.69 (£14.39 with trade discount), 3 in stock at local store
Ordered online, picked up 20 minutes later.
So moral of the tale - don't ignore Halfords as an option, especially if you have a trade card (which aren't that difficult to get).
Secondary moral of the tale - I bet the SIP and Impax reels are made by the same factory, and Screwfix and Toolstation are not going to be selling these at a loss which shows a huge markup... (speaking as someone who really likes both stores)
