Have you tried burning a few rods. There made to last I have a sureweld that looks rougher than that it's about 30 years old still going strong.
The resistor is just to drop the 415 (or 400 on pic) to 240 (230) for the fan...
As daft as it sounds it's working the light must be on all the time only goes off when its over loaded
Referring to the diagram I posted, all of the red line will be at 400v.
The transformer will operate as a boost transformer.

I clean my welder out with an air line and the workshop vac.the light is defo on but it works how well i dont know but think its fine compared to my older one that i thought was a 140 amp but its a 100 amp sip so should be a fair bit better
ideas on stick holder ?
how long a cable can i put on the welder 2meter ?inc from the termninals in tthe unit aprox 1.5 meter out the back
how to clean out the inside of the unit ??

Do you have anything to say that the light should only light under overheat condition?
when i say modded there are 2 holes under the switch that just stops any one turning it to the wrong side you just put the screw in the hole you need
