Made a retaining clip from 316 1.2mm tig wire, which appears to have been a bad choice the problem being that 316 can not be quench hardened and after bending, is still quite soft and easily bends out of shape, as opposed to being hard and springy, retaining the shape.
It appears if I want to use this wire I need to significantly work harden it before bending. Top is the original.

Could you repurpose a stainless R clip? Not sure on the heat treatment required to reshape these type:
