Any of you guys made a stroke delimber/processor?
As the name suggests, for taking branches of small trees up tp 350mm dia

Probably still at the top of the tree. This weird device was exhibited at a garden machinery show in the late 60s. Apparently it climbed the tree cutting as it went. not sure how it knew when it had got to the top! never seen it or anything about it since.
Yeah, planning to make it with a hydraulic chainsawProbably still at the top of the tree.
Nobody can climb up to it, cos there's no branches to hold on to.
In response to the OP -
Are you planning to make one?
based on what sort of cutter? bandsaw? chainsaw? circular saw?
Thanks for that, could you help with the angle of the blades? Even source some old reduntant ones? Also, not sure how to plumb the saw, should I have a cut off valve that stops the saw when it is in the rest position or have a lever for both the saw motor and the rise and fall?Making it with leavers is possible but going to be quite slow due to how they operate. the chainsaw your going to want a hydraulic supply of a about 90l per min.
specially if it was a tree house and u were in it and got the chain up your jaxieIf that thing ever escaped, it could eat your house.
The Info is very much appreciated, thanks! How is the tension kept on the knives? Are they spring loaded or just hydraulic pressure on the operating rams? The knives will depend on the geometry of where they mount but there normally a sickle sort of shape which alow them the best contact on a range of diameters. Use google images to search for "tapio stroke delimber" to give you loads of pictures. With the saw there normally electrically controlled as to start with they tension and clamp the saw bar gives it a bit of chain oil then starts the saw motor and after a small delay pushes the saw out through the wood and stops after it has cut the diameter. It would be possible to use a manually tensioned saw to cut down on the complexity of the operation. With the motor it will need a proper motor valve which does not lock of the hydraulic flow in the off position to prevent pressure surges in the motor and damaging it.
That would be fantastic thanks, will pm you!The knives are hydraulically held against the wood. If you want I can send you a copy of a manual for a harvester head which has feed wheels on rather then stroke but most operation is similar.
