Yes but..... in my garage anything magnetic ends up looking like a huge furry fungus after a couple of weeks. Inevitably any metal tool that's been hung on a magnet also becomes at least slightly magnetic too and ends up picking up any bit of swarf or metallic dust that is anywhere near when you put it down.
I do use hard-disk magnets in a poly bag to "sweep" the bench every-so-often. When done just invert the poly bag and pull it off the magnet containing the metal dust and drop in the bin. I actually tend to keep the magnets in one bag permanently and then use a second one to gather the dust as it gives you a second chance of keeping the magnet fur free if a bag splits.
