I might be able to blag the odd replaced Lorry Brake Drum from work. I'd thought of using one before, but wasn't sure if the footprint was big enough for stability (if freestanding & not bolted to the floor).

Once you've mounted the drill press, I'd be interested to get your thoughts.
(I needed mine to be movable, so it's on a wide base and castors - & my Clarke drill is very top heavy & I had visions of it going over like a felled tree)
I had the concerns (for a vice stand) being greater about tip-over than for a drill press when in use - because you might have a long hefty "something" in the vice, and applying quire a bit of force to it of your own - so went for a tripod design vice stand (it can be broken down if needed, but for general moving about I added two fixed small castors to the front legs, so I could tip the stand towards me to easily move it about.I wondered about doing all the metalwork then filling the drum with concrete? It would be more than heavy enough but you could tip and roll it on edge if you needed to Move it ever
