Ended up with some nice T&G oak flooring off a job, so that pushed me into getting started. Glued up the treads with PU adhesive, followed by a hard wearing matt polyuethane varnish.
The trick was, to get the height right on the curve, so as to not bang my head on the beam. The length of the stair is limited by the huge beam that holds the second floor up, and I couldn't cut away above the turning bit as there is a door above.
The first step is the base platform. There used to be a shower-room in the corner and it had a concrete floor, whereas the rest is ancient chestnut. Rather than just cap it, leaving a 20mm trip, it is the 190mm of the other steps.
Hand rail is still to finish, another upright and wood capping al the way.
The old stair outside, just before it went on the local free internet site.
The main post is 80x80 and the rails two by 60x30 tube
Mrs KF much impressed, as she hated the other one.
