We'll soon be back there...I read a post about poverty and deer meat. Hmm, but some 200 years ago, poor people in Britain hunted crows with crossbows that fired lead bullets while the landlord was not looking. Another question is that the crossbow cost money. I had such a crossbow, an elegant thing. By the way, in Lithuania, crows meat that does not yet know how to fly is still a culinary delicacy. Apparently, the source of crow meat was previously distributed throughout Europe.

Don’t they reckon crows & the others in the family have similar reasoning to a 5 year old child?

I am absolutely describing a crossbow for bird hunting. He only fired bullets. The stones are too light for this. Apparently it qualified as a 'non-weapon'.They were blunt so they didn't stick in the trees and get lost, the actual missile was called a quarrel (meaning square ended) as opposed to a bolt which was a sharp version for ground based prey or people.
Just had a google round and they were called a prodd or pelletbow, earlier than crossbows first developed in China. Good info on them.I am absolutely describing a crossbow for bird hunting. He only fired bullets. The stones are too light for this. Apparently it qualified as a 'non-weapon'.

There's a video that does the rounds on social media of a crow or maybe a magpie 'escorting' a hedgehog across a road. Lots of the comments were 'Aren't animals amazing? Look how they help each other! So heartwarming..' . It's obvious it had just seen a hedgehog in a vulnerable state and was waiting to start eating it alive. People anthropomorphise animals so much. They don't like to think about the brutality of nature. They are pretty quick at spotting sheep in trouble and pecking their eyes out.
Had one ewe on it's back a year or two ago and they pecked a hole into it's stomach.

I had a chimney swepped a while back and local crows had made a nest in one of the flues that doesnt get used much. There was loads of horse manure, apparently they collect it to heat the nests.Yes the feathered kind.
Big crows were waiting near a service station and watching me eat a sandwich the other day. It struck me how smart the little dudes were. Proper eye contact and questioning head movements. Crows are a very intelligent animal this was a neat encounter for me.
I was on a construction site visit so I'll stop by the next time and see if they are still there no doubt they will be. There was about 5 of them. All very healthy and they got my crusts in the end up

Anyone have encounters with crows?
Are you sure it was a crow? More likely a Jackdaw, they nested in the chimney of the house opposite me for years, fortunately they never lit a fire.I had a chimney swepped a while back and local crows had made a nest in one of the flues that doesnt get used much.
