Last year I made a nice fire basket as I A) couldnt find one to fit, and B) didnt have the pennies to buy a custom made one. Basically what the coal or wood sits on is a trapezoid grill made from some round bar and welded up, think it was about 5mm dia steel. Tonight when cleaning out the fire for the first time in weeks I noticed it has burned right through. I need to make another one, but one that will last a bit longer and hopefully stand up to the heat of coal. What type and size of material would be more suitable? I already have some 10mm and half inch round bar sitting there surplus at the moment if it would do the trick.
