hi all
not been around for a while but the urge to melt some metal is biulding again lol, was thinking about building a skid steer "tug" for want of a better description, l need to drag a big roller round to level a grass track, bit of a sticky one with the way the mud is if you wait till the ground is nice and soft so as the roller has an effect then the towing vehicle ( landrover) just sinks and leaves to great tracks that the roller cant cope with, so l was thining of a bigger roller maybe 4 tons or so but biuld me a 6 wheel skid steer to drag it around, bit like an argocat but 50% bigger and 3 or 4 times heavier with big floatation tyres to spread the wieght out, all sounds a good excuse for another project lol. it would be simpler to but a tractor l know but where's the fun in that
l would like to use some of the stuff l have kicking around me which is nearly all the bits l need except the hyd hoses
bought a party pack of big floatation wheels and tyres some time back. well big is relative they are 31" tall and 16" wide the wheels have a suzuki stud patten
l have a hydrulic pump of a 6 ton excavator and a pair of wheel motors
any hydraulics boys on here as l dont really know what l am doing with this oily stuff ??
was thinking of using a transit engine and box to drive the hyd pump and then a hyd motor driving a front wheel on each side linked to the rest of the wheels on each side by a drive chain in much the same way as an argocat does,
once its done and proved capable of tugging a roller round l was thinking about making an outfront mowing deck for it and maybe a 3 point linkage for the rear so l supose a tractor is a better description than a tug
