Last time I fired it up the current was pathetic. Much sparking, but not enough current to melt ice.
So today I delved inside it and checked all the connections, breaking and remaking each them several times and even replacing one of the 'hanging' bolts (it was badly rusted, so I replaced it with a new, chrome plated nut & bolt) while cleaning up all the mating surfaces.
Switch on and the fan doesn't run. There's a bit of a hum when the wire touches the grounded workpiece and the wire feed doesn't run. Otherwise nothing, although I might have just seen a tiny spark, but that could just have been a reflection of the sunlight streaming through my partially transparent roof.
Ideas, chums.
btw. I'm considering making my old stick welder into a scratch tig. Will I need pure argon for all metals?
Ta very glad in advance.
