Drill, dowel and epoxy.
Well it is a good friend of a friend. And my welding supplier.Sorry Brad. I did read that, But unless you owe him some almighty favour, dowel and resin would be my way or the highway,
Is he thinking simply a layer of glue on the broken surfaces though?Owner does not want glue.
i would tin both sides with silver solder then heat with o/a holding the flame well back , i did similar to a bronze ? camel with a bent leg that snapped off as i tried to straighten it , worst bit was the guy was watching ,but he seen the funny side and didnt take the humpHeating it won’t be a problem
I’m gonna braze it properly with brass rod and gas.I wouldn't have thought that a reamed hole was the way to go. The silver solder needs some space to wick into, and the rougher the surface finish the better.
tig braze?I’m gonna braze it properly with brass rod and gas.
That looks just fine to me, Brad. It’s gone back together okay. Press fit the two broken halves together. Slight mis alignment But it wasn’t easy to hold and drill.
It’s now self supporting on two 3mm dowel pins.

^^ As it is now self supporting on the pins I would have thought some clear epoxy loaded with brass filings would be a nice safe way to hide the join.tig braze?
^^^^^^^^ +1That looks just fine to me, Brad.
Plus, it must be nice to get that little nighmare behind you!
All the Best,
