Hi, I'm new to this forum but not new to DIY MIG welding. I have quite a bit of experience welding on thin rusty car bodies, mostly Ladas and Pugrots
I'm currently doing a welding course at a local college to gain a qualification, but also to get more experience welding thicker materials with more power.
At home I use an underpowered SIP welder with 2 power settings, held together with buts of rubber and zip ties. The wire 'pulses' as the rollers never grip the wire properly, and the wire annoyingly gets unwound from the reel and tangles up before reaching the feed mechanism. The torch is shocking.... the list goes on.
Anyway, I have done a bit of reading up and want a cheap (£150 max) second-hand MIG welder for occasional DIY use, possibly welding up to 3mm plate and with the option to weld Aluminium. I am handy with tools and can fix simple electrics but would prefer a reasonably reliable welder, with parts still available.
I have searched on eBay and have seen a Sealey 210 and a Clarke 150TE that would fit the bill. Which would be better? My tutor says go for a 180 to get good penetration on 3mm mild plate.
Welders I have spotted are below. Thanks in advance for your help!
