There's a phone-in radio program over here where people ring in and tell their stories. They've covered metal thefts on and off over the years.
Woman calls in yesterday and tells the story where she has gone into the hospital to collect her son, who is in a pvs (permanent veg state) and brings him home which she does a few days a week. She gets home and the wheelchair ramp is missing ! Stroked from the front of the house during the few hours she is out. She didn't say what it was made of (I'm guessing Al)
What sort of pond life does that ?
Another little old lady calls in today saying she was out at a show and when she got home the house was wrecked. Sub-humans had broken in and and pulled out the immersion tank and surrounding copper pipe and just left the place with water running everywhere. 10's of thousands worth of damage for a 60 quid tank !
These guys are using somebody else's oxygen and food.
I think cash payments are to be banned from this month. Payment by cheque or bank transfer only. This is only in England and Wales at the moment.
no what will happen is the larger scrap boys will buy the scrap of the lower end scrotes pinching lead of peoples bay windows ect and give them half the price that its worth in cash . then they take it to the yard along with there legit scrap and just put it through and everyones happy theres allways a way to beat the systemWhy do I get the feeling that someone will likely end up abusing that by setting up a temp scrapyard, do cheque only payments, and then do a moonlight disappearing act and close their bank account once they have either one, (or two concurrent), very good day(s) for scrap coming in.
At work it's a never ending game. We manufacture stainless commercial catering equipment, and as part of the WEEE regs we have to dispose of old equipment where we sell a customer a new product.
We have a never ending war against pikeys, either they drive into the yard and load up with what they can before they are spotted or they reccy and come back after hours. We have a 9ft fence around the yard, and in the past they have managed to oik a 8 foot double door fridge freezer over the top - bearing in mind the compressor and gubbins are all at the top. How they did it without being killed I don't know.
They once loaded up some old forklift batteries, they got disturbed and one guy got covered in battery acid, as did the inside of the van. I'm sure he probably ended up in hospital, but the police never found them.
All this despite being in a gated and security manned / patroled industrial park.

Anything at all left outside is gone - a single alloy wheel outside to cut the tyre off - gone in 10 minutes. We've even chased them out of the swarf skip. They were delving about in there picking the stuff up with their bare hands!
theres one in stoke that pays cheques, and then knocks 10% off to cash it for them!!
You mean they issue a cheque for a tenner then give the guy £9 cash if he gives them the cheque back?
My local scrappy knocks the loose change off the amount he gives you.
