Any body any experience of the SAF Prestotig 200 AC/DC tig welder.
A company is asking £1050 + vat second hand. Any good or would i be better buying a new R-Tec or something like that. For hobby/light industrial use.
Spoke to Wecs today. They recommended i go to the showroom to have a look. They say they are very good welders and would be 2-3 K new. Fully tested but only 1 month warranty. They say after sales is good and that they can repair SAF machines no problem.
For a similar price i could get a brand new Portamig TECtig 182 with 2 year warranty. Its a transformer machine not inverter so its big and heavy.
SAF is usually good stuff, or at least it used to be but if portability is not an issue I think I would go for the TECtig if only for the warranty and after sales service. I'm no electrician, but it appears that the transformer based machines are easier/cheaper to fix if things do go wrong - I wait to be corrected on that statement.
